SETTLEMENT: Negligence by Immigration Lawyers. An American company whose business was the placement of foreign nationals in nursing positions in the United States hired Sheftall & Torres to bring suit for legal malpractice against a large, multi-national law firm. We alleged that the defendant's Washington, D.C.-based lawyers negligently failed to file certain papers on a timely basis with the Immigration and Nationalization Service, which were necessary to perfect the client's interests in obtaining required work visas for the recruited nurses.
