Scott Sheftall and Brian Torres founded the civil trial law firm of Sheftall & Torres, P.A., in Miami, Florida, with one goal in mind: to provide high-caliber legal representation to clients committed to achieving justice and whose complex legal problems demand nothing less. Experience has taught us to be selective in accepting client engagements, and we focus only those matters in which we believe our talent and experience can make a significant difference in achieving our clients' goals. Over the years, our focus has narrowed to a particular group of clients that every member of our firm takes great pride in representing: injured children and their families.

Senior partner Scott Sheftall has been privileged to advocate for the rights of children injured by the negligence or wrongful acts of others since he began practicing law in Florida over 30 years ago. The representation of an injured child presents special challenges that the child's lawyer must be prepared to meet. Whether it is preparing a child to give sworn testimony, giving careful heed to developmental issues that may be impacted by a child's physical injuries, or ensuring compliance with a web of legal requirements that often apply to settlements involving minors, your child's lawyer must be sensitive to the many special issues that can - and often do - arise when a lawyer seeks to protect and vindicate the rights of an injured child.

Our firm also has particular experience in representing the surviving spouse and children and of adults who have been gravely injured or killed in tragic circumstances. We are sensitive not only to the fact that each particular family member may have different legal rights and needs, but also to the emotional and financial complications that frequently occur when a parent is incapacitated or killed by the negligence of others. We make every effort to provide not only first-rate legal advocacy, but also compassionate attention to the special needs of particular family members that may arise under such difficult circumstances. Close communication with the family is a hallmark of our successful client outcomes in this area.

In addition to our special emphasis in advocating for injured children and their families, we also represent other individuals and business organizations who need the assistance of lawyers to help them address their difficult legal problems in a wide range of practice areas. Whether those issues involve catastrophic injuries or a significant business dispute, we pride ourselves on our aggressive and ethical representation of clients in helping them resolve their legal issues.

The law practice at Sheftall & Torres is centered on litigation in the state and federal courts, including courts of appeal, in Florida and in other jurisdictions. We have achieved significant victories for our clients in jury and non-jury trials and in vindicating our clients' rights on appeal. If we are unable to resolve our clients' problems in any other way, we are fully prepared to try their cases in court and to represent them on appeal.

Often times, however, we are able to resolve our clients' cases before trial (and sometimes before a lawsuit is filed) by utilizing our skill and experience in negotiations with the adverse party at lesser cost in time and money. We also have significant experience in alternative dispute resolution, including arbitration and mediation.
